Winter Park Approves Laundering $75,000 For Schools

After reading the article in the SkyHi Daily News, I've changed some wording around to more accurately reflect the truth. Councilman Jimmy Lahrman seems to be the only one on the council to see this operation as it really is, even though he caved and voted to approve the measure.

Yesterday, the Winter Park Town Council approved a deal to launder $75,000 in taxpayer funds through the East Grand Education Foundation, which operates under the auspices of the Grand Foundation.

Town attorney John Hayes said towns can't directly fund school districts, so they have to launder their funds through charitable organizations.

The beauty is that this comparatively small figure can easily be amended to a much larger figure in the future if need be. Start small, and ratchet up in increments to avoid the nausea associated with large numbers.

The only Council member with the brainpower necessary to avoid this moral hazard was Barbara Atwater, who seems to have learned some lessons from the recent bailouts of auto manufacturers and banks.

  2. Wait... laundering tax-payer funds? Isn't that illegal?
