Commissioners? What Happened Here?

"Location: The Grand County Transfer Station will be located on six acres approximately one mile east of Hot Sulphur Springs off Hwy 40 across from the Thompson Ranch.  HSS is only six miles from the Granby landfill.  The property is zoned “business."

The questions I have are:

Who owned this property?

When was it zoned, "business?"

When was it purchased?

How much was paid?

What happened when Granby was chosen as the final resting place for the transfer station?

Did the taxpayer lose any money in this deal?

I'm going to fill in those questions as I answer them. I hope the answers aren't what rumor says they are.

  1. The property was owned by the same family that owns MP Concrete in Granby. The county paid $180K in Dec 2008. The county did not hold any Special Permit hearings and did this without letting the residents of HSS know about it. The county argued no special permit was needed and that it was zoned properly. The town of HSS paid several thousand dollars to contest it. As of now the county still owns the property. Where were you?

  2. And when The Trash Co said they would build a transfer station the county approved. The residents of HSS were overwhelming NOT supporting a transfer station the the entrance to their town for numerous reasons.

  3. @hssbum... I was in Denver at the time, spending nearly every penny I had on a house I needed to get out of. I moved back up in the summer of '09, and started fussing quickly after.
